Abby Bowles
Student
Hello, Bonjour, Kia Ora! My name is Abby Bowles (they/them) and I’m incredibly excited to take on the role of speaker this year. I’m a grade 12 SAGE student at Walter Murray Collegiate and a proud non-binary person from New Zealand. I’m an avid musician, I play flute in the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra, and I enjoy reading, math, and drawing comics. I cannot wait to share my passions for science and gender equality with you in my speech. With my sights set on a career in theoretical astrophysics, the current environment for gender minorities in science is something I want to positively influence. Women make up less than 30% of science researchers worldwide, and the factors that influence this lack of representation start as young as preschool. I strongly believe that we can open STEM subjects up to everyone through hard work, education, and teamwork within our academic and social communities.

Amy:
Hello everyone, my name is Amy Zhang and I am delighted to be chosen as one of the TEDx speakers for 2025! As a grade 12 student in the SAGE program, I love learning, which is probably evident through my various interests as a competitive pianist, Math Club organizer, writer, figure skater and sprinter. While I plan to study engineering in university, I often find conflicts between pursuing my STEM and arts interests. In a world where STEM salaries are more than double arts and humanities salaries, it's important to maintain the skills of human-centered critical thinking, reasoning, creativity and compassion that come from the arts and humanities. Following the guide of the “Renaissance Man”, my speech aims to take everyone through a journey of exploring the combination of STEM and arts through studies, career, and societal impact, and how we can foster a more understanding and innovative mindset for the future.
Arbe Chumala
Student
Hello! I am Arbe Chumala, an enthusiastic Grade 12 Student at Walter Murray Collegiate. Outside of school and volunteering, I love to paint and draw; naturally, creativity has always been essential to who I am. As someone who values authenticity and academics simultaneously, I can't help but notice the dissonance. In an educational system that grades based on a universal standard, conformity is prioritized over genuine passion. As a speaker for this year's youth-focused event, I feel it's necessary to discuss the impact of our grading system on engagement and creativity in the classroom.

Isen Young
Student
Hi! My name is Isen and I’m a senior at Walter Murray. I’m super excited to be speaking at this year’s event! I’m a competitive gymnast, having competed at the Canada Winter Games and National Championships, and I’ve won several Provincial medals. But while these competitions are exciting, I find that competitive programs often don’t leave much room for diversity, leisure, and fun – all crucial to healthy sports communities. As a coach, I’ve come to realize the value of recreational sports in promoting these qualities. In my talk, I’ll draw from my experiences as an athlete and a coach to explain the importance of recreational programs and clear away the stigmas surrounding them. I can’t wait to see you there!
